Dolphins Playing and Surfing St Pete Beach

We took this video of Dolphins jumping and surfing the wake while on the Dolphin Racer boat in beautiful St Pete Beach Florida. I have never seen so many Dolphins playing and leaping behind any other Dolphin watch boat before.

Best Way To See Dolphins Near St Pete Beach

Dolphins leaping behind the boat so close you feel that you can touch them!

We watched Dolphins leaping, jumping and playing in the boats wake aboard The Dolphin Racer boat. Take a look at our video of Dolphins jumping and surfing in the wake – amazing!

We recently went out on the Dolphin Racer boat, and to be honest despite their brochure showing Dolphins jumping out of the water we presumed it was a typical Dolphin watch tour – yep, we expected to see a Dolphin or two but we were excited to see pods of them leaping into the air and jumping in the wake of the bright yellow boat!

The Dolphin Racer boat takes you from St Pete Beach to Johns Pass and back. The trip takes about two and a half hours traveling along the beautiful scenic bay and ocean.

Dolphin watching is one of my favorite things to do on St. Pete Beach. Visit the water often enough and you will see them and if you are lucky they will be jumping and playing. However if you haven’t got many lazy days to spend staring at the ocean then take my advice and book a trip on the Dolphin Racer boat – they guarantee you will see Dolphins surfing the wake – or you get a free trip!

I can honestly say this is the best Dolphin watch boat I have ever been on – and I have been on a lot. It was as if the Dolphins were putting on a show just for us – awe-inspiring!

Watching Dolphins jumping and surfing the waves is cool at places like SeaWorld but seeing them in their natural environment is an experience not to be missed.

Visit The Drum Circle Treasure Island FL

Treasure Island, FL holds a drum circle every Sunday evening and all are welcome. If you are looking for something completely different to do, that is really worth writing about on your postcards home and fun for the whole family, then take a stroll along the beach following the sounds of tribal drum beats.

Drum Circle Treasure Island

We took our camera along to the drum circle just before sunset and joined the eclectic group swaying, jumping and dancing to the beats. It is an amazing experience and something fun to do on a Sunday night near St. Pete Beach.

If you own a drum, tambourine, or any musical instrument then bring it with you – believe me you do not have to be a musician to join in.

We look forward to going to the drum circle and time our arrival for just before sunset; it just warms our hearts and is the perfect end to a weekend. We love the gathering of people, no club to join, no dues, just people enjoying the sights and sounds of the magical drum circle.

On any given Sunday you will find a large crowd consisting of families, teenagers, grandparents and all in between coming together with one goal – to enjoy the sounds of the drum circle. People sit on beach chairs, blankets or the sand in a large circle; others are dancing in the middle.

Those that have instruments join in the tribal beats, sometimes the beats are gentle other times they are loud and fast, and always the group in the middle are dancing.

Children try to dance like the belly dancers, teenagers are laughing together in huddles and the retirees are dancing and even pounding drums – it is a true mix of mostly locals and a few tourists that were lured out of their hotels rooms by the beat.

Once the sun sets – an experience in itself, the glow sticks, lighted hula hoops, and anything that glows adds to the mystery of the darkening night.

A visit to the drum circle even if you do not play the bongo or like to dance is still an experience not to be missed.  If you enjoy peaceful gatherings and like to feel alive then you simply must visit the Treasure Island Drum Circle next Sunday evening.

Visit To Clearwater Aquarium To Meet Winter The Dolphin

We had heard a lot about Winter the bottlenose dolphin who is currently the only dolphin alive without a tail so decided to visit her at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Enjoy our pictures of Winter the dolphin star of the movie Winters Tail taken at the aquarium here in Clearwater Florida.

Is The Clearwater Aquarium Worth Visiting?

If you are in full tourist mode and are expecting an intense Seaworld experience with their performing Killer Whales they you may be a tad disappointed. Instead a visit to Clearwater Aquarium will be educational, relaxing, and informative and will get you up close with Dolphins.

Bottlenosed Dolphin
After parking in the small car park and admiring the rustic house boat floating in the water to the left of the entrance – yes the very houseboat in the movie Winters Tail, we realized that this small and dedicated marine animal rehab had been thrust into the limelight by the now famous permanent resident Winter and at the time of our visit was doing everything thing it can to accommodate the sudden influx of visitors.

We made out way straight to Winter’s area because they were just about to start her show. There are around 60 plastic chairs around the large pool that Winter swims around in. The staff explained how Winter lost her tail and ended up at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Winter swims and plays with a hula hoop seemingly happy and oblivious to all the fuss about her missing tail.

She was not wearing her prosthetic tail during our visit and the staff explained that she has learned to swim without it but they put it on her two or three times a day for rehab and to keep her back strong.

Holding Winter the Dolphin Tail

Winter was not wearing her tail so I got to hold it!

What we found most inspiring was the staffs total dedication and commitment for the animals. and willingness to talk about the animals. You can feel the enthusiasm they have for their work and we loved the fact it felt genuine – many were volunteers and you can tell they love their jobs. Ask any of them about the animals in their care and they were delighted the share their vast knowledge, positively beaming with pride when we continued to ask for more facts. This is why we love this place and if you have any interest in Dolphins and what’s swimming in the Florida oceans then you will love it too.
